Data warehouses are repositories where data is stored in a suitable format for data analysis.
The raw data may come from a number of different sources from which it needs to be extracted, unified, transformed into a suitable form and loaded into a data warehouse. In order to carry out these activities, it is necessary to set up an ETL/ELT process, short for Extract, Transform and Load. The difference between the ETL and the ELT lies only in the order of activities.
Data storage, processing and interfacing can be implemented as an on-premises or Azure Saas (software as a service) solution. The use of Microsoft Fabric offers particularly extensive possibilities, where business analytics and machine learning capabilities are integrated in addition to the traditional data loading, storage and transformation capabilities.
