Smarten Logistics AS Is Moving Confidently Toward Digitalisation and Paperless Operations

Smarten Logistics AS is Estonia’s leading third-party logistics (3PL) service provider with impressive daily volumes — the company operates on 62,000 square metres of warehouse space, handles over 35,000 deliveries per month, and receives approximately 60,000 pallets monthly. With well-functioning processes and a dedicated team of 320 employees, Smarten Logistics is a reliable partner for industrial companies, importers, and retailers alike.

To operate even more efficiently amid growing volumes, Smarten took a major step toward digitalisation and going paperless. Together with OIXIO, the company completed the transition to a new ERP system, enabling sustainable scalability for the future.

Transition to a Unified ERP System

Smarten previously used Microsoft Dynamics AX 2009, which had become outdated and no longer met the needs of a growing business. Since 2023, in collaboration with OIXIO, the company has been gradually implementing the AX 2012 version. Initially, inventory and warehouse management were transitioned, followed by financial, purchasing, and sales processes — significantly improving operational efficiency, warehouse throughput, and analytical capabilities.

During the project, two systems were used in parallel. On 1 March 2025, Smarten implemented the AX 2012 financial modules, marking the full transition to a unified system.

The transition was carefully planned and deliberately scheduled for the 1st of the month, which fell on a weekend. Smarten Logistics delivers goods six days a week, and the switch also needed to coincide with a change in financial periods. Therefore, it was crucial to choose a moment when data could be transferred smoothly. Thanks to this planning, service disruptions were successfully avoided.

“The biggest win is that people are now working in a single system instead of two, and we can also manage ongoing planning and analytics from one place. The previously used AX 2009 didn’t fully support handheld scanner operations in the warehouse. Now, we’ve laid the technical groundwork to become paperless in the future,”

says Taivo Tender, Head of IT at Smarten.

The Next Step in Digitalisation

In addition to upgrading the ERP system, Smarten also adopted the Cloud Payroll solution from OIXIO at the beginning of 2025. It was integrated with Wemply’s time tracking and HR software. The result is a modern solution that further supports digitalisation and enables automation of HR processes.

The value of an ERP system also lies in how the data it holds can be used. Thanks to the implementation of AX 2012 across all logistics and supporting processes, Smarten can now make better management decisions, scale its operations, and continue advancing on its digitalisation journey.
