Magnetic MRO Digitized Aircraft Maintenance Processes, Maximizing Minimums

The international aviation company Magnetic MRO, with nearly €200 million in annual revenue and headquarters in Estonia, has significantly digitized its processes in recent years – and this journey continues.

Transition to AMOS Aircraft Maintenance Software

As a major step in the company’s next phase of digitalization, Magnetic MRO implemented the internationally recognized maintenance software AMOS this year, which helps digitize aircraft maintenance, repair, and spare parts management. AMOS is a well-known system in the aviation sector, and several Magnetic MRO clients also use this solution, making data exchange with clients easier. Magnetic MRO’s digitalization plan has also received support from Enterprise Estonia and the Innovation Agency.

According to Magnetic MRO Product Manager Elina Märtin, several solutions were evaluated, but ultimately, Swiss AviationSoftware’s AMOS was selected:

You have to keep up with the times, and we needed a modern system for managing aircraft maintenance. Aviation is a highly regulated field, so we saw the need to build a stronger structure to support processes and make data exchange and movement more transparent. AMOS has strong technical support in Europe, which was an important criterion in our decision. This simplified both the implementation process and access to ongoing support.

Integration of ERP and Aircraft Maintenance Software

Because financial transaction processing is not included in the aircraft maintenance software’s services, it needed to be integrated with Magnetic MRO’s existing enterprise resource planning (ERP) system. Magnetic MRO also uses a separate solution for invoice management. For the integration of aircraft maintenance software and ERP, Magnetic MRO partnered with OIXIO Digital, with whom cooperation has continued since 2020.

The goal was to create an optimal integration—connecting exactly the data that Magnetic MRO needs for its daily operations.

Four Partners at One Table

The initial objective of the project was to create an integration that would ensure sales invoices, currency, suppliers, and clients would move from ERP to the aircraft maintenance software. During the project, it became clear that data and sales orders also needed to flow from the aircraft maintenance software back into the ERP—and that invoice-related information would need to return to the maintenance system after receipt. Additionally, supplier codes and VAT accounting issues needed to be resolved.

To ensure the aircraft maintenance software was integrated with all necessary solutions, the project involved not only Magnetic MRO employees and OIXIO Digital specialists but also the aircraft software developer and the invoice management system provider.

The complexity of the processes stemmed from the highly specialized nature of the aviation industry, which created challenges at several stages of the integration. “For the integration to succeed, all four parties had to contribute to reaching the go-live stage. Various obstacles arose during the work, including the challenge of coordinating schedules. The aircraft maintenance software was new to us and functionally unfamiliar. Providing precise input to partners was difficult because we could not be fully certain how the financial setup of the solution would look, while still remaining within the legal framework and avoiding excessive manual work. We relied on the service providers, as they know their products best, can offer us solutions, and tell us what is possible and what is not. We could not completely avoid manual work. However, we continue to work with OIXIO specialists to further improve the integration,” describes Elina Märtin.

600 Hours of Work

The integration project began at the start of 2025 and was completed in June. OIXIO Digital’s total workload for the project amounted to approximately 600 hours.

“It was a complex integration, especially considering the timeframe. But we are satisfied because today, data moves between different systems exactly as we wanted. This fully supports our business needs,” confirms the Magnetic MRO product owner.

In addition to the core OIXIO Estonia team, Elina Märtin also highlights the Lithuanian colleague from OIXIO.

Developer Mati Sõber and consultant Raimundas Saladžius made a significant contribution to the success of the project and supported us even when something stopped working. We are glad that OIXIO and other partners managed to handle our hectic requests,

she concludes.

Recommendations for Implementing Integration Projects

  • Choose the right partners.
  • Map out your company’s needs—if you lack internal resources, involve external partners.
  • Plan employees’ time in advance.
  • Appoint a lead user and relieve them from other duties so they can fully focus on the project.
  • Test, test, test—this is essential and should never be underestimated.
